Why a Handful of Grating Sizes Move Fastest — and Cost Least

Every grating range has a short list of panels that leave the floor before everything else, and the reason is not fashion: the fast movers are the panels nobody has to cut, band or explain. In our range that means stock panels in 1000 × 2000 mm and 1200 × 2400 mm, welded in the standard bar and pitch combinations, hot-dip galvanized with the routine batches. We are not the maker, seller or agent of any third-party grating brand.

Why Stock Sizes Move First

A stock panel follows the shortest path a grating panel can take: welded at a standard size, coated in a standard batch, packed without a cutting station in between. Cut-to-shape panels take the same path plus two stops — cutting and edge banding — and every stop is machine time someone pays for. That is the whole mechanism: stock sizes move fastest, cut-to-shape panels add cutting and banding time, and the faster panel is also the cheaper one per square metre. Nothing in that sentence is a promotion; it is where the machine hours go.

The Cost Structure Behind a Fast Panel

A price moves for reasons that can be written down: volume, panel mix, stock availability. A stock panel wins on all three when your opening matches it — no cutting programme, no banding welds, no special coating batch. A bespoke panel is not overpriced; it is priced for the extra steps, and a quotation that states the steps is honest about the number. Compare two quotations by asking what each one leaves out: the cheaper line with no cutting and banding named is pricing a panel that has not been imagined yet.

What "Fast-Moving" Can and Cannot Tell You

"Fast-moving" is a description of which panels cost least to make, not a popularity contest and not a quality ranking. It tells you where the lowest price per square metre lives; it tells you nothing about whether that panel fits your pit. The reverse question matters more: a slow panel is slow because it is made for an opening nobody stocks — and a panel made to the opening needs no shimming, no trimming and no second delivery. Fast describes the factory's day; fit describes your site.

The Seven-Day Question

Seven days is what the fastest orders look like when everything is already decided: the size matches a stock panel, the finish is the standard galvanized batch, the documents are routine and the sailing schedule cooperates. Take one of those away and the clock restarts — a cut-out adds cutting time, a non-standard pitch adds a weld-schedule change, stainless or aluminium moves the panel to a different material line. This is why the only lead time we stand behind is the one printed on the quotation: it is the number that already contains the steps your panel actually takes.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not use sales labels as evidence. "Hot sale", "best seller" and similar words appear nowhere in our quotations — a panel earns its place in an order by dimensions, coating and documents, not by an adjective.
  • We do not quote a lead time that is not a number on the quotation. A schedule given verbally is a hope; the quotation's number is the one the schedule is built around.

FAQ

Which sizes move fastest? Stock panels in 1000 × 2000 mm and 1200 × 2400 mm, welded in the standard bar and pitch combinations. If your opening measures to one of them, that is the fastest and cheapest route.

Why is a stock panel cheaper than a bespoke one? It skips the cutting and banding stations, so it carries fewer machine hours per square metre. The offset is fit — a bespoke panel is priced for the steps that make it fit the opening without site rework.

Can a fast-moving size still need made-to-order? Yes: a different environment needing SS304 or SS316L, a non-standard pitch, or a cut-out in the panel all move the order off the stock route. The quotation says which route each bay takes.

Ask which route your opening takes — send the opening dimensions, and the quotation names the route and the lead time for each bay.
