Steel Grating Applications by Industry
Steel grating is chosen for one reason: it carries load, drains water and lets light and air through while staying safe underfoot. What changes from project to project is the profile, the material and the surface treatment. This section groups our products by the place they are actually installed, so you can start from your site conditions instead of from a catalogue number.
How to choose grating for an application
Three questions decide most specifications: what load the panel must carry, what the environment does to bare steel, and how people or vehicles move across the surface. A pedestrian walkway in a dry plant tolerates a 25x3 bearing bar and a mill finish. A chemical plant deck needs FRP or 304/316 stainless. A drainage cover over a truck route needs a 40x5 bar and a serrated top.
Each page below sets out the load class, recommended bearing bar, surface and fixing method for one application, and links to the product families that suit it.

Frequently asked questions
Which grating is best for outdoor walkways?
Hot dip galvanized steel grating with a serrated surface. The zinc coating gives 20+ years of corrosion protection in rural and urban atmospheres, and the serrated top keeps grip when the surface is wet.
Can I use one grating type for the whole plant?
Usually not. Most sites mix: welded galvanized grating for walkways, FRP for chemical or coastal areas, and stainless or aluminum where weight or hygiene matters. Matching the material to the environment per area is cheaper than upgrading everything.
